Oops

I met with Sean the metal objects guy again last night. I told him my preferred colours for his soon-to-be-specially-made-for-trading-nothing metal creatures - oops, I hope I didn't give too much away - which I had finally settled on.

And, lucky for me, he really likes two of the three paintings now up for a trade, so if I still have one of those come trade time, probably that's what he will be getting from me...

The only not-so-good news was that he was hoping to complete everything by the end of the year, but this is looking less likely now. But he is still going to try...

Out Of The Grey (Trade 4)

This one happened very quickly. Out of the blue, or out of the grey Lancashire clouds even. And on reflection, I think this was a great trade, because my newly acquired paintings have grown on me since last week.

I had spotted mixed media artist Evelyn Kharag's ad in some local internet classifieds, where she was inviting offers of things to exchange for her paintings. And I soon learnt that she has been busy exhibiting all over, and has work in collections in London, France, Spain, and the USA. Naturally, I then sent her a message pointing her to this website... and a few days later (Monday) we met at her home.

She offered me a cup of tea, and showed me all her paintings she was willing to exchange. Dozens of them. And after a little while we both agreed it was going to be three paintings for GreenPiece.

I didn't take long to choose "Embellished Soul" and "Lotus". And Evelyn wanted one of the works to be of Krishna, so "Krishna of Vrindavana" was included too.

There was a temptation to do the trade there and then, but I decided to sleep on it. Not being religious and being perhaps a little naive too, I just wasn't sure about accepting "Krishna of Vrindavana". I didn't want to rush in.

So I slept, and my doubts vanished, and we met again Tuesday evening to do the trade.

Again I accepted a cup of tea... followed by a good hot meal... not that the tea wasn't good... and then we did the trade...

Trade 4

(Bit of a long range shot this... I sat the camera on the staircase, set the timer and moved quicker-than-usual to position. Paul, our designated photographer, was too busy panicking in the kitchen to be our photographer at this particular moment...)

Then we enjoyed another good cup of tea, a celebratory one this time, and before long it was time for me to head off.

As I was about to leave, Evelyn told me to wait a minute, and not for another cup of tea - she explained she didn't want me to leave without taking some of her work for me to keep for myself! She found one of her mirrors which I had earlier told her I really liked - she even managed to pick up on my favourite coloured one - and after writing a personal message on its back and signing it, she gave it to me. And here it is...

Evelyn's Mirror

How cool is that?! This one's for keeps.

By the way, if you want one of these mirrors for yourself I think Evelyn could help you out. She has them in different colours too.

Turns out "Embellished Soul" features not only on an Ashtray Navigations CD cover, but also on Evelyn's business card. And "Lotus" features on Evelyn's Axis page... maybe my taste isn't all that bad after all!

Seriously, I think there is a lot going on with all three paintings.

I'm going to wrap this up with a bit of a rant. The time between Trade 3 and Trade 4 was... just a minute... I make it 52 days (not just a minute).

Well, 52 days is too long. This thing is all about the trades. No trades = no thing. Or nothing. Nothing was fine at the beginning, but nothing now is not fine.

I hope there is never again a gap of 52 days between trades. (End of rant).

Fortunately, I believe we are still on course for two more trades over the coming weeks. I'll keep you updated on that here, and if you haven't already... feel free to subscribe to my Trade Alerts service - it's even free!

1 to 3 = Trade 4!

I traded GreenPiece for three original paintings by Evelyn Kharag last evening, report and site update coming soon...

And I forgot to mention in my last post... last week I received an email from "singer songwriter person" Sean Redmond, who is originally from Preston, where I am writing this. He wrote nice things to me like "I think what you're doing is great" and "I hope things get bigger and better" and "Hello".

Sean's first single "Unintentional" will be released on January 20, 2007. I listened to it already at www.myspace.com/seanredmond (check it out), and I happen to think it's a very good track, the guy is talented. I won't be at all surprised if I hear it on the radio...

And finally... I scrubbed last night's post, because half of it was garbage. So now you know :o)

Foxy Lady

Thirteen days since my last post?! Time flies... which is more than I did on Halloween when I was supposed to fly. And no, it didn't matter how fast I flapped my arms.

Took in some blues last weekend, at the Kinsale Jazz Festival. That's what I like about jazz festivals, they don't just play jazz, and if they did I might not show up.

Here are the Stringfellows live at the Bulman Bar...

Stringfellows

On guitar is Ray "Taff" Williams, who can play much like Eric Clapton. He is one of big Eric's favourite guitarists.

And on the piano is a pint of the famous Irish black stuff that begins with "G" I think. I had one or two myself.

They didn't play Foxy Lady by Jimi Hendrix.

I was supposed to fly back to England on Tuesday, Halloween. But guess who got caught out by the change to the winter timetable? Yup, you guessed right. So I got to go trick or treating with my scary daughter and her scary friends instead.

On Thursday I again met up with Sean, the guy who will be making metal objects for trading nothing. He brought round some paint samples, and I am still struggling which ones to choose. It's definitely going to be a lot of fun this one.

Then on Friday... I was due to meet up with an artist. But she preferred to postpone until this week, partly because she will have more paintings for me to view by then. No problem I said, hopefully we'll get there this week (watch this space).

Which takes us to this weekend just gone... I drove down to the South West of England, visiting family.

A Foxy Lady called Lizzie stopped by early yesterday evening for a snack, as usual I was told. There was just time to take a few real wildlife snaps before some noisy Guy Fawkes fireworks spooked her away...
