Where's My Soapbox?

Kyle MacDonald, the one red paperclip guy who traded up to a castle or something, emailed me today to say he was happy to subscribe to my Trade Alerts service.

But for some reason, and I'm not going to speculate why here, though that could be fun I must admit... for some reason Kyle did set one condition.

So here goes. To keep my side of the bargain I have to make an announcement "to the world". I'm not sure how important this announcement is, or even if it is a world exclusive scoop. But anyway...

Kyle loves Basset Hounds.

There. Sorted. The world is now more informed.

And I happened to know already Kyle's brother Scotty also loves Basset Hounds, which is just one of those fantastic coincidences, or coincidencii maybe, I guess. Don't ask "how?!" I knew, I just did. Scotty started out on a adventure with his friend Fiddy recently, hitch hiking all 50 states of USA in 50 days or less. And I can honestly say I am checking in every day to see how they are progressing. Their location is indicated on a map in real-time, and it's happening right now right here: Hitch50.com.

I am thinking of emulating this journey myself next July. But just to make it a little more interesting, I will go without insect repellent the whole way.

Yes, Itch50.com should be a hoot.

Say Cheeeese :oD

Had a quick photo shoot for the crystal vase today. Didn't use much film. Didn't use any in fact. And didn't use many pixels.

And here is the reason for all the fuss...

T3 plaque

Yes, the crystal vase and base looks even more handsome now, thanks to this tidy addition to the base, which I think you will agree looks smashing! A big THANK YOU to Ged in Preston (Lancs, UK...) who made and fitted the plaque for nothing... except for this very brief announcement: if engraving is your thing, Ged can be reached on 01772 731244. Ged does all sorts of engravings, including very serious ones, like "Beware Of The Wife" signs.

Other news...my search for accommodation (outlined in last post) has proved fruitless to date, though there is still a lot of time left for me to work with. The good news is the artist in question has expressed interest in one of the upcoming metal objects, so I think two consecutive trades at least is still on the cards.

And coming soon on a screen near you... some exciting non-trading nothing news. Possibly.

It Had To Be Done...

Yesterday I received an offer: a 1976 Chevy truck for Speedy the llama! It put a smile on my face, and I thought it's about time I listed offers received somewhere, so that it's not just me enjoying them!

So, now you can find them in Up For A Trade, easiest found using "some offers received for this" links.

My mission at the moment is to find 10 days (from January 22, 2007) self-catering/house-sitting accommodation in County Cork (preferably west of Cork city), Ireland... if anyone can help in any way with this I would be extremely grateful :o) This I could exchange for a selection of very cool original paintings...

Coool Metal

Just a quick update... I had a meeting on Thursday with someone who wants to be part of this crazy trading nothing story. All being well, he will make two or three metal objects which would look great in living space, office space, or possibly even outdoors. I have seen two pieces that he has made - and by the way he has not made many to date, just a few for friends and relatives - and I think they are very very cool indeed. I am curious and looking forward to seeing the reaction when they are put up for a trade, which at the moment is looking like some time in November, depending on his work commitments.

By the way, if you want to be alerted by email whenever I make a trade, you could probably do worse than subscribe to my Trade Alerts service.

No News Is My News

Well, I was hoping to have more news on my next trade by now... but I don't have it yet, so until next time...

In fact, I believe I should be in a position to announce three in the not-too-far-away future. Two (both really cool I think) are pretty well lined up, the other needs some work, and I need it to happen to enable one of the others to happen... and none of them are for Speedy the llama...

Hope I haven't confused you now. I was OK, but I'm a bit confused myself now.

Other news... check out "Red Back Does The USA", see the ex-trading nothing bottle opener posing on top of the Empire State building! (and who knows, maybe wondering how many un-opened bottles are down there in Manhattan...)

And by the way, I don't think I ever mentioned... Sarah was delighted - she got a commission to make wine glasses, from someone in London directly through this website. Nice little bonus :o)

Press Coverage!

Or maybe more accurately... Digital Coverage! (you decide...)

Check it out: Kinsale Times "Trading Nothing Hits Kinsale" story.

And I believe I am close to making another two trades, more on that this week I hope.

And finally before I switch off the lights... at Manchester Airport tonight I spotted the world's largest aircraft! the only flying Antonov An-225 Mriya, which I have also seen flying years ago at Farnborough Airshow. And the mind still boggles!
