Now Up For A Trade: Item T2_2
I got this item from Sarah in Trade 2.
This item was traded on to Evelyn in Trade 4 and so is no longer up for a trade - sorry!
Standing at approximately 14 cm (5.5") high, this beautiful and unique nature-inspired Cool Liquid glass vase was handmade by Sarah Walmsley, a well renowned, much respected and innovative "glass designer and maker of cast and mouthblown glass", and a very active member of The Art & Craft Guild Of Lancashire (she was secretary last year I believe).
The vase - affectionately named GreenPiece by Sarah - is surprisingly heavy, and comes with the option of being finished off with a special commemorative message and Sarah's signature inscribed. And believe me, Sarah does not inscribe or sign many of her works - this would indeed indeed make it an extra special collector's piece!
Now, I just know my words couldn't do this fine work of art justice. And I wish I could show you better how the thin leaves appear to be floating up inside the glass. So, lucky for me, Sarah helped me out by describing how she made this wondrous vase:
"The first gather is clear with a hint of aquamarine powder, then after the second gather pea green frit is introduced (small pieces of coloured glass). After they are melted in, another final gather is added to the piece.
"The glass is then mouth blown into the correct size and shaped with wet newspaper, then cooled in the leer overnight.
"Once cooled, the neck is diamond cut and polished."
